This impressive pair of superbly cast and chased candelabra are with some minor variations, based upon an original model dating to around 1782-5 in the Wallace Collection, London illustrated by Hughes, op. cit., pp. 1252-53, no. 247 (F134 and F135). They are attributed in part to François Rémond (1747-1812), received Master 1774. The palm leaf candleholders are the same as on a pair of ostrich candelabra delivered by Rémond in1782 for the cabinet turc of the comte d'Artois at Versailles. The scrolling candlebranches are also of a model that have been attributed to Rémond and the Egyptian head terminal and frieze with putti are also found in the work of François Rémond. However, Hughes op. cit., p. 1254, says that the Wallace pair may be the product of collaboration between Rémond and other fondeurs working to the commission of Daguerre.

There is a also similar model in the Huntington Collection, illustrated by Bennett and Sargentson, op. cit., p. 173, (27.183, 27. 184), which unlike the Wallace and the offered pair, does not have the swags at the front  and they also lack the leafy sprays beneath the necks or satyr masks on the sides and has a bleu turquin base.
