Catalogue Note

The scribe of the present Qur'an 'Ali Wasfi was a pupil of the famous Osman Efendi (d.1805), son-in-law of 'Afif Efendi, who died the year this Qur'an was written. He signed his works Osman al-ma'arouf bi-damad-i 'Afif, but due to some rather eccentric behaviour, he was also known as 'Osman the Mad'.
