Description

  • 11.1cm., 4 3/8 in. and 14cm., 5 1/2 in. high
both of globular form, one painted in the 'Kempthorne' pattern, the other painted with six Compagnie des Indes- type flower sprays within iron-red borders, the cover surmounted with a flower finial, the first with square mark in underglaze-blue, the 'Kempthorne' pattern with restored spout tip and finial, the other teapot with chipped spout.

Provenance

The first teapot: acquired at the Westpoint Antiques Fair, Exeter, August 1989
The second teapot: acquired from David Turner, Truro, N.E.C. Fair, Birmingham 1993

Condition

The Kempthorne pattern teapot: the finial is replaced, there is an area of restoration to the underside of the spout tip and an area to the top of the handle. The teapot with Compagnie des Indes type flowers: the finial is restored, there is a flat chip to the underside of the covers flange, there are two small chips to the spout tip with two short hairline cracks.
