Les dagues dont la poignée en bois traduit, dans le visage finement sculpté, les canons de la beauté Mangbetu, signalaient le haut statut de leur propriétaire. Voir Trésors d'Afrique, Musée de Tervuren (1995, p. 258, n° 231) pour un couteau comparable (inv. n° RG58.35.3) dans les collections du Musée de Tervuren, Il est rare que les couteaux soient conservés complets - avec leur fourreau en cuir, orné ici de lamelles de cuivre - dans les collections.
