When Bourne departed from India in 1870, he left his camera equipment to Colin Murray, who had previously worked with John Saché. Murray continued Bourne's work, producing views of India, Nepal and Burma, in a similar but distinctive style, signing the negatives 'Bourne & Shepherd', and continuing with Bourne's numbering sequence.
