Catalogue Note

Last Operated - Unknown. Carved in Brooklyn, NY by Charles Carmel, c. 1900. The master carvers of the carousel world would go wherever they could find work. Many of them created their own carousels but would also work for competitors. Charles Carmel's shop was near Prospect Park in Brooklyn, but if Looff, or Dentzel or PTC needed an extra hand, Carmel was more than ready to help. This piece was carved by Carmel for Charles Looff, but carries the likeness of Carmel's wife.
