Catalogue Note

Carved at the E. Joy Morris Carousel Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The carving shop foreman at E. Joy Morris was Charles Leopold, one of the most influential and least known of the carousel master carvers. He first carved for Gustav Dentzel before being hired by Morris. When the Morris shop was purchased by PTC he went to work for his protégé, Daniel Müller. The carved animals that came out of the Morris Company were the most ornate carousel figures of the 19th Century.
