Condition

Condition Report as per Simon Parkes, Inc. (3/25/2014): This oil on panel is in beautiful condition. It has been cleaned and varnished. Although there are small losses to the frame in the upper left, the work could be hung in its current state. The stout piece of wood panel is very slightly curved from top to bottom. In the interest of stability, it is not recommended that any effort be made to diminish this curve or any support applied to the reverse of the panel in an attempt to flatten the surface. This curve has probably been in place for many years. One could apply a gilded "cushion" to the liner to accommodate the curve. The painting itself is in beautiful state and only shows restorations on the extreme left and right sides and in a handful of tiny isolated dots in the background.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
