Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. One loss on the top edge of the mask, most visible to the rear. Number 47 written in black to the rear. To the rear, traces of old glue along the periphery on the upper part. Beautiful light ivory with visible grain. Typical lega carving is very well preserved. Catalogue Note

A la très grande rareté des masquettes lukungu en os d'éléphant s'ajoute ici la sensibilité des modelés, accentuée par l'épure géométrique des traits et des motifs en chevrons. Les trous percés à la lisière du menton l'inscrivent parmi les exceptions de masquettes lukungu portant, à l'origine, une barbe en fibres végétales.
