Condition

Overall very good original condition. The frame of this work is a gilt pearwood and this variant appears in the Ruhlmann archives. Overall the gilding appears in original condition with some light rubbing, which reveals slightly darker tone. This rubbing appears consistent with the natural aging process. There are a few very light scratches and a few edge nicks to the work. The interior is fitted with the four sockets and is electrically stable. The interior with surface dirt throughout. With one are of heat damage adjacent to the one of the sockets, likely the result of a light bulb too close to the frame. The area with some charring, losses and discoloration. The alabaster panel appears original and has a small age crack that extends the diameter of the panel, as seen in the catalogue illustration. This crack is stable and appears to have occurred many years ago. The alabaster is warm in tone and with very nice coloration. The chandelier is presently suspended by silk-covered ropes and that appear original. With some minor fraying at the edges and surface dirt and light discolorations throughout commensurate with use. The ceiling cap shown in the catalogue illustration appears original as it matches both the wood and gilding the lower frame. The silk rope tassel also appears original and presently fragile. With minor losses and some irregularities in length to the silk tassels as seen in the catalogue illustration. The losses are not visible as there is enough remaining tassels to cover any losses. A rare design which presents very strongly in person.
