Condition

Overall the condition of the plaster is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are one or two small chips and abrasions in the diadem. There are a few small lacunae and an area of fissures under the proper right shoulder.

Catalogue Note

La Candeur is among the most sensitive têtes d'expression created by Carpeaux. Modelled in 1867, plaster and cast iron examples are preserved at Valenciennes. A marble version of La Candeur was sold at Sotheby's Paris, 26-27 October 2011, lot 171.
