Description

  • marble, bronze
  • height 46 in.; width 38 1/2 in.; depth 22 in.
  • 117 cm; 98 cm; 56 cm
the upper structure centered by a timepiece above a small cabinet opening to a painted floral interior with inkwell recipient

Condition

Extensive tarnishing to metallic parts, formerly silver gilded and decorated with copper and steel patina. The upper cabinet would have had a set of one light candelabra on each side, both are now lacking. As visible in the photographs showing on Sothebys.com for this lot, one lid of one inkwell is lacking. The inner cabinet has a painted decoration. The pietra dura decoration is in good condition with no losses but with the original extensive scratches, this condition can easily reversed by professional sanding. The clock has one missing hand. The clock movement has not been checked for functionality. Winding keys are not present. The two winged putti holding the barrel shaped clock case are showing holes to the top of their heads implying that a decorative finial was formerly decorating the clock case-this part is now lacking.
