Condition

Overall in very good original condition. This a rare example of a small scaled cabinet which retains the original saturated coloration throughout. The front door of the cabinet with some minor surface dirt, minor areas of concentrated oxidation, a few minor losses to the patinated surface and a few shallow surface scratches, all of which are consistent with age and the natural aging process of the metal. The exterior of the case is executed with overlapping metal panels that present with minor surface scratches and a few very minor areas of lifting that appear inherent in the making. There are some minor areas of white scuffs to the proper left, proper right and top of the case. With a minor areas of scuffs and a minor dent to the top edge of the case, which is not visible once the door is closed. The interior side of the door is executed in a brilliant red tone. A dynamic small scale work that encapsulates the strongest elements of Paul EvansÂ’ aesthetic.

Catalogue Note

IN CONTEXT:
We probably made a half dozen of these cabinets and the reason it was made that small was because we always had one in the showroom, so Paul could sell it right off the wall.  They were inexpensive, $300-400 at the time, which was enough to pay everyone and to pay the rent.  The verdigris copper, was another that was always in the showroom.  Often I would come in Monday morning and Paul would tell me we would need to make another.
