Condition

A label of Sala Parès Barcelona, 1963, is visible on the reverse of the frame. the watercolour is slightly faded which accentuates the contrats in the background. A large humidity stain is visible in the upper part of the background. The paper is laid down on cardboard. Good overall condition

Catalogue Note

Tapiro et Mario Fortuny se rendent au Maroc dès 1860. En 1876, Tapiro s'établit à Tanger où il demeure toute sa vie. Il y réalise de nombreux portraits à l'aquarelle, d'une technique extrêmement virtuose dans le rendu des détails et la luminosité. L'artiste représente avec une grande précision les coiffures, turbans ou chapeaux ornés de coquillages et de bijoux, donnant à ses aquarelles un caractère presque ethnographique.
