Description

  • pine, poplar
  • 222cm. high, 147cm. wide; 7ft. 2¾in., 4ft. 9¾in.
with vine leaves and grapes with a boldly scrolled acanthus leaf carved cresting and frame above a rectangular bevelled plate within a rose and leaf carved border, the apron carved with a bacchic cherub with outstretched arms; garland now missing from cherub; mirror plate replaced

Condition

In overall good conserved condition. Colour of gilding less greenish more golden and attractive than in the catalogue photograph on p. 34. There are some old minor restorations to the carving which have been well executed and not too noticeable and have been touched up with gilt paint in places. There is a vertical construction crack above the right and left corners of the mirror plate which can either be filled or left as visible in the catalogue photograph together with other scattered construction cracks and hairline cracks which are commensurate with age and normal usage which can be left. There is an old minor restoration to the scrolled acanthus leave beneath the bacchic cherub on the apron. Gilding restored in places.
