Catalogue Note

The composition of the present relief is derived from the so-called Turin Madonna in the Galleria Sabaudai, Turin, first attributed to Desiderio by Bode. The widespread production by Desiderio's workshop of replicas of his compositions in stucco is documented  and several stucco versions of this relief exist in public collections (see Bormand, op. cit., p. 200).
