Panel is uncradled. under an extremely dirty, discolored and dull old varnish. the paint surface is quite well preserved overall and detail of the figure is good. ultraviolet light reveals a few retouches on top of the old varnish, mostly in the background. There are a few tiny ones on his beard, face and costume. this painting has not been attended to in a long time and its appearance should improve greatly with a light cleaning and sensitive restoration. Offered in an elaborately carved and gilt wood frame with some minor nicks.
