The very rare, early woodcut printed in pale blue, black, green, yellow and orange, the streaks in the woman's hair strengthened in rich red and brown with monotype printing, 1899, Woll's first state (I.2) (of eight), before the additional work in the rocks in the foreground and before the vertical cut in the block from the top edge to the woman's head, printing with strong relief verso, signed in pencil, printed by Nielsen in circa 1914-17, on thick wove paper

Condition

The full sheet with a deckle edge at each side, in good condition apart from a vertical broken crease along left hand side of sheet, tapering towards the top (2cm at the bottom), pale uneven paper discoloration in the margins, a short repaired vertical tear at lower edge of sheet (circa 8mm), slight creasing in outer right margin, a fine horizontal crease at lower right deckle, there is some pale smudging and rubbing on the white areas in the black pigment both to right and left, pale surface dirt verso, framed.
