Description

  • Joris van Son
  • Still life with grapes, a melon, an orange, plums and oysters in a stone niche
  • signed and dated lower centre on the cartouche:  J.VAN.SON / 1654
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Sale, Paris, Fred. Muller, 29 June 1920, lot 28, where acquired by the grandfather of the present owner.

Condition

The canvas has an old lining which is stable. The paint surface is in very good condition overall, though somewhat dirty and covered by a thick varnish. Inspection under ultra-violet light is inhibited by this varnish but there do not appear to be any major damages or restorations. There are, however, a few small retouchings in the background. Sold in a modern gilt frame.
