Condition

The oak panel is uncradled and has a very faint convex bow. The painting is now dirty and the varnish layer discoloured. The paint surface is in generally good condition throughout, showing not much sign of wear, but there is some very slight incipient flaking upper centre which will require attention. Inspection under ultra violet reveals scattered ares of old retouching, for example to old areas of wear across the sky, the trees and the figure of Saint Joseph, but these are fairly minor in nature. This lot is offered in a later parcel gilt frame in good condition.
