Description

  • Antiveduto Gramatica
  • The Madonna and Child
  • oil on canvas, unframed

Condition

The painting is cooler in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has a recent and effective relining. The painting is secured by a slightly yellowed varnish. To the naked eye the painting appears in quite good condition, with some pigments sunken in the darker tones and in localised parts of the blue drapery. No major damages are apparent. Inspection under UV light reveals some very minor strengthening in the craquelure in the faces of the Mother and Child, as well as some localised retouching in the white tunic, the blue robe, the orange drapery and in the shadow. Overall in quite good condition. Unframed.
