Catalogue Note

This comes from the collection of Santo Varni, who assembled in Genoa a collection of about four thousand sheets, and it bears his attribution to Baratta.  This very pictorial drawing does not seem relate to any known work by the artist, but is typical of his technique which is characterised by an exuberant and broad use of wash and strong white heightening.

Mary Newcome Schleier has kindly confirmed the attribution to Baratta from an image.
