Condition

Tempera on panel, gold ground, a fragment, unframed. Cradled. The edges of the panel have small knocks and losses. There is an obvious vertical join extending across the work to the left of the figure at right in blue. There is a stable web of craquelure across the surface with a few accompanying losses, mainly in the beard and blue cloak of the leftmost figure. Many areas of the gold have been rubbed and the red ground is now visible. Surface dirt and some small scattered areas of accretion. Under UV light, there are scattered dots and dashes of older and newer inpainting across the picture surface, especially around the previously mentioned panel break at right.
