Catalogue Note

Donated by Ralph Lauren.

Aerodynamic and efficient, the Bugatti racing wheel, patented in 1924, occupies a unique place in design history - it was the first cast aluminium racing wheel with an integral brake drum, making it lighter and more efficient than the typical wire wheel. This wheel, as reproduction case in 1960 for an original T51 Bugatti racing car, has no functional use anymore - but Jony and Marc consider it a beautiful object that perfectly illustrates the unique inventiveness of one of the world's first great automotive designers, Ettore Bugatti, and recommend hanging it on the wall.
