Catalogue Note

Donated by Knoll, Inc.

Few companies are associated with more great designers than Knoll, the Pennsylvania-based producer of history-making furniture by Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, Richard Schultz and many others. Keenly aware of each other's work, these designers often played off each other, and Schultz's celebrated "Petal" table is a case in point: inspired by Queen Anne's Lace, the table was designed in 1960 specifically to accompany Bertoia's 1952 classic "Bird" chair, a brilliant example of a natural form realised through industrial materials and techniques. Entering this conversation between designers, Jony and Marc created new finishes for the table and chair, making this set unique for the (RED) Auction.
