le premier groupe composé d'une Bacchante brandissant un thyrse de la main droite, soutenue par un Satyre agenouillé et accompagnée d'un Satyre Enfant jouant de la flûte de Pan; le deuxième d'une Bacchante tenant un thyrse de la main gauche et une coupe de la droite, également portée par un Satyre agenouillé et suivie d'un Amour

Condition
Very good condition overall. Some minor surface dirt.
Left group: the nymph's right outstretched hand is restored as well as her left arm and hand. Some restoration to the back of the drapery. Otherwise good condition with some minor surface dirt and a few chips and lacks.
Right group: the nymp's both hands appear ton have been restored. The putto's right hand is missing a few fingers. A few minor chips and surface dirt. Very decorative groups.

Catalogue Note
Joseph Bardac, banquier et amateur éclairé, rassembla une importante collection d'oeuvres d'art du XVIIIe siècle français, dont certaines se trouvent aujourd'hui dans les plus prestigieux musées, tel ce buste en marbre de la Comtesse du Cayla par Jean-Antoine Houdon, à la Frick Collection à New York (inv. n° 1916.2.77). Joseph-Charles Marin, élève de Clodion (1738-1814), fit des Bacchanales de son maître une spécialité. Ainsi, la trilogie de personnages bacchiques rappelle le groupe en terre cuite de Clodion au Metropolitan Museum de New York (inv. n° 14.40.687).L'expressivité des visages, le nez fortement busqué du Satyre et les yeux profondemment creusés dans la matière du Satyre assis donnant du raisin à un enfant (cf. cat. exp. galerie P. Bellanger, op. cit., n° 7 à 10) font écho aux traits présents dans nos deux groupes. De plus, nous y retrouvons ce même traitement enlevé des chevelures et du pelage, le mouvement des drapés juste esquissé dans la matière, les couronnes de pampres des satyres et bacchantes, le modelé charnu des corps juvéniles.
