The drop-shaped black opal measuring approximately 16.0 by 5.1 mm, within a frame of gold irises accented by green enamel, extending to an openwork design of irises on the reverse, suspended from a multi-strand gold foxtail-link chain with a pendant element, slide bead and clasp decorated with blue and green enamel, length approximately 18 inches, signed M & Co.; circa 1900.

Condition

In good condition. The opal exhibiting a crack at bottom front, with some slight crazing and exceptional blue-green play of color. Some visible matrix. Some minor enamel loss, particularly on the pendant, not readily apparent when worn. With further enamelling and iris motifs on the reverse. Length adjustable and excludes pendant which is not detachable. Signed M & Co on tongue of clasp
