Condition

Illustration is accurate. Very well preserved condition. High quality of marquetry and parquetry. The back is also veneered with latticed parquetry pattern. Can be placed on the middle of a room. Harmonious design of the desk. Very few minor scratches. One very small piece of veneer as well as one thin band of amaranth are missing on the cornice. Traces of previous handles on the lower drawers. Inside the leather top has been replaced. The green stained veneer has kept its original color. Beautiful desk, typical of Hache's work in good condition.

Jean-François Hache, ébéniste actif à Grenoble dans la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle

Jean-François Hache a realisé plusieurs bureaux à cylindre de style Transition, aux formes et aux proportions semblables. Parmi eux figure un bureau en marqueterie toutes faces à fond de carrés entrelacés qui, tout comme le nôtre, présente un médaillon central sur le cylindre (collection privée, voir Pierre et François Rouge, Le Génie des Hache, Dijon, Faton, 2005, pp. 496-503). La forme de la ceinture de notre meuble, davantage sinueuse que sur les autres modèles du même ébéniste, ainsi que le contraste entre bois clairs et foncés, sont du plus bel effet.
