Catalogue Note

This center table with outward spreading columns terminating in ram’s heads recalls the work of Parisian ébéniste, Sébastien Youf (active 1819-1842).  A guéridon, stamped by Youf probably from the chateau de Fontainebleau, the column supports terminating in ram’s heads, was sold from the Estate of Giuseppe Rossi, Sotheby’s London, March 12, 1999, lot 1444 (£550,000).  This, together with another guéridon sent to Fountainebleau in 1863, was probably exhibited in the 1834 Exposition des Produits de l’Industrie Française.
