Oil on unlined canvas. There are small scattered losses visible at the extreme edges of the work and in the lower left corner, though most are obscured by the present framing. There is a fine and stable web of craquelure over the entire picture surface. Under UV light, the varnish fluoresces green. There are areas of older inpaint visible in the darks along the sitter's epaulettes; a very small dash across the bridge of the sitter's nose; along the top of the right neck piece; and some mottled areas in the upper corners. In overall good condition.
