Description

  • coconut shell
of cylindrical form, the fine and intricately carved coconut surface joined in narrow horizontal strips to form the vessel, carved in low relief with detailed sinuous chilong writhing amidst flowering lotus against a ground of small stylized waves, all resting on a similarly carved splayed foot, the recessed base with a 'cracked ice' pattern

Condition

The surface with expected wear, there are small nicks to both the mouth and foot rims and a small area of loss just above the base and another below the rim.
