Purchased at the above sale by the present owner

Condition

The canvas has been relined. There is a light scuff in the left of the sky (visible in the catalogue illustration). Ultraviolet light reveals just a few scattered minor spots of retouching, and a varnish which fluoresces opaquely obscuring a clear reading of the surface under U.V. light; there appears to be a circa 14cm diagonal repaired tear in the lower left quadrant and there may be some further retouchings which do not fluoresce clearly. The overall appearance of this work is good and it is ready to hang. Held in a decorative gilt frame. The catalogue illustration is overall a good representation, although the colours have slightly less of a bright gold cast overall.
