First published in the Daily Sketch on 20 January 1937. The caption commences "What joy there was in every house when the little elephants woke! In the Royal palace Queen Celeste peered round the door of the night nursery and rejoiced at the sight that met her eyes..." The first published edition of Babar and Father Christmas printed a coloured version of this illustration on page 37.
