pot à eau ordinaire et jatte ronde, each piece painted with a continuous scene d'après le Saxe of figures among barrels and bales beside ruins at a harbour's edge, the domed cover painted with a couple in a woodland ruin setting, the handle and spout with formal ornament in purple enamel and with shell thumbpiece, the interior of the bowl with scattered black-edged flower studies in Holzschnitt style, the edges in brown enamel, the bowl incised A2

The piece is illustrated in colour by T. Préaud and A. d'Albis, La Porcelaine de Vincennes, no.83  (where, incidentally,  the incised mark is given as 'T.M.C.2')

Catalogue Note

Préaud and d'Albis, cited above, remark of this piece that the palette of colours, the decorations in purple, and the brown enamel borders all point to an early date, though sale records show that the form remained popular in the sales records of 1752 and 1754.
