Condition

The illustration is accurate. Good overall condition despite the inevitable scratches and marks throughout. Both constructions are firm and sound. The gilding is later with some small chips and liftings revealing white gesso underneath. Some old traces of woodworm. The upholstery is in good condition. Very nice model with exquisite carved details and large proportions.

Catalogue Note

Le dossier chantourné et le motif de la grenade éclatée flanquée de feuilles d'acanthe sur le haut du dossier et sur la ceinture rappellent fortement la production en siège de la famille Cresson. Nous pouvons rapprocher notre paire de fauteuils d'une paire vendue chez Christie's à New York le 18 octobre 2002, lot 599. La structure générale des fauteuils ainsi que le traitement naturaliste de la sculpture sont similaires.
