Catalogue Note

Executed circa 1991, the present work is a study for Vettriano's most famous painting, The Singing Butler (sold these rooms, 19 April 2004, lot 169, £744, 800), depicting a couple dancing on the beach at Fife. One of the best-selling reproduced images in Britain, it was exhibited at Aberdeen Art Gallery in 2012 and is included in the major retrospective of Vettriano's work currently being held at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow.
