Description

Voyage pittoresque de Constantinople et du Bosphore. Paris, Strasbourg et Londres, Treuttel et Wurth, 1809 [1819] ; 2 tomes en un volume de texte in-folio et un volume d’atlas in-folio éléphant (1006 x 670 mm) demi-maroquin rouge.

un des très rares exemplaires avec les planches non pliées.



Titre gravé, portrait de Selim III en frontispice, 48 planches d’après Melling par Schoeder, Bertaux, Le Rouge, Pillement et autres, 3 cartes.



A l’âge de dix-ans Melling arrive à Constantinople et fait les portraits des différents membres de la Cour. La sœur de Selim II, Hatice Sultan lui confie le soin d’aménager les jardins de son Palais à Ortakeï.



A son retour en France en 1803, Melling commence la publication de son ouvrage, en 12 livraisons, terminé en 1809. Ses grands dessins du Bosphore, de Buyukdere, de Bebek, du port, de l’arsenal et du harem impérial figurent dans le recueil.
