Description

  • bronze
cast in the form of a zebu with engraved and punched features to the head, including incised harness around neck, stellar motifs on front and rear haunches, pierced udders and aperture at the mouth

Condition

In overall good condition, minor dents and knicks to body consistent with age and use, part of tail missing, area of repair to back of animal, patches of oxidisation, as viewed.

A stylistically comparable brass figure of a horse is illustrated in Zebrowski 1997, p.106, no.119 and attributed by him to North India, 16th or 17th century.
