Catalogue Note

The form of the present writing table with its spindle ends relates closely to other tables known to be by Gillows of Lancaster with very similar end supports and feet which include a wring table stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER, illustrated  in Susan E Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, 1730-1840, 2008, 2 vols., vol.I,  pl.329, suggesting that  the present table could also be by the same maker. The quailty of construction and timbers used are also of exceptional quality and consistent with the output of the firm again linking the present example to them.
