Catalogue Note

This figure is striking for the inlaid gold accessories and gilt-painted face and painted hair and facial features which create an added opulence to the overall sculpture. These embellishments are well-suited to the present figure of a bodhisattva as it highlights the princely background he left behind in his quest for enlightenment.
