A Roman Marble Figure of Fortuna, circa 1st Century A.D.
seated and leaning slightly forward on a high-backed chair with open armrests, and wearing a chiton bound with a belt under the breasts and buttoned on the shoulder and upper arm, and himation originally drawn as a veil over her head, falling from her left shoulder, and draped across her lap; the corners of the chair's back restored in marble, the head, arms, cornucopia, patera, and base once restored.

Provenance

French private collection, acquired between 1808 and 1812, probably in Naples, but possibly in Rome, Volterra, Florence, or Venice (auction at Denailly, Paris, Notice d'une collection de statues et bustes antiques et modernes en marbre dont la vente aura lieu le 30 Avril 1819, rue de l'Echiquier, no. 23, pl. V,10 [notices by Ennio Quirino Visconti, Curator of Antiquities at the Musée Napoléon])
