Description

  • A Marble Torso of Athena

  • Height 18 in. 45.7 cm.
standing with the weight on her right leg, her now missing separately-carved right arm formerly raised, her wavy hair falling in long locks over the shoulders and in a straight plait over the nape of the neck, and wearing a chiton with overfold fastened with a belt across the waist, himation draped over the right shoulder and across the back, and aegis with gorgoneion falling diagonally across the chest from her right shoulder, the neck hollowed out to receive the separately-carved head.

Condition

As shown and described, surface weathered and cleaned with remaining incrustation throughout except on chest, scattered chips and abrasions particularly to drapery, remains of drill hole in proper right shoulder for attachment of separately carved right arm.
