Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 30-35 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, which is a relatively low number in proportion to the vast number of glass tiles that were required to execute this complex and monumental shade. The shade with surface soiling to the adjacent contours of the leading, wing overlays and natural folds of the glass. One of the bottom elements on one of the Dragonfly heads was previously detached and recently restored by a professional Tiffany conservator. Three pieces of period Tiffany glass were utilized in this reconstruction. This restoration was sensitively executed and the restoration is not visually detectable. At this same time, a few of the cracks noted above were stabilized with glue. The shade leading below the top aperture rim and to a few small areas in the upper geometric register appear to have been stabilized in the past. (This type of conservation is quite common with larger shades of this scale, as the sheer weight of the shade makes this area particularly vulnerable over time.) There are five background tiles in the upper midsection of the shade that are possibly replaced, as is suggested by their coloration being slightly whiter in hue (only noticeable on the shade interior with reflected light). The patinated bronze surfaces of the base display an exceptionally rich green patina with russet brown highlights. The bronze surfaces with some occasional light surface scratches, abrasions and light rubbing to the patina consistent with age and gentle use. All six sockets and paddle switches appear to be original and undisturbed. The telescoping mechanism on the base functions smoothly. With a period finial, which has two small and minor surface abrasions to the outer perimeter contour. The underside of each foot with a small old felt glide. A very attractive example of the model, displaying a highly desirable and complementary shade and base pairing which imparts the lamp with strong visual presence.
