Condition

Overall very good condition. The reverse gilt, silvered and painted decoration is in remarkably good condition throughout, showing some occasional minor imperfections, discoloration, and small minor losses consistent with age. The gilding and silvering on each panel is incredibly vibrant and luminescent, and the panel displays greater depth in color than seen in the catalogue illustration. The panel is not a perfect rectangle, but has small original notches at the corner which were made for the initial mounting on the Normandie. With a few associated minute chips to these notches, which were possibly from the original de-installation from the oceanliner. This panel has been expertly framed and please contact the department for a photograph showing the frame which was excluded from the catalogue image. The current frame is gilt finish, and is slightly brighter in tone than the gilt decoration to the panel. This panel is elegantly framed and mounted for display and presents beautifully in person.
