Description

  • ivory, silvered metal
  • height of taller: 20 in.
  • 51 cm
each finely carved in the round with a festive bacchanal scene, one ewer with museum inventory number 11853 / 423

Condition

Both are in fair condition considering their age: the ewer mounted with gilt metal mounts shows tarnishing and dirt and a rather large loss to the right arm of one psyche carved to the right and side of the ewer spout; the ewer with silvered metal mounts also shows extensive tarnishing and losses of silvering. Please note that the bacchanal relief scene is higher in depth than its associated companion. Visible traces of dirt to crevices, no apparent large breaks or losses.
