Catalogue Note

This frame was the original to Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s The Golden Hour (op. CCLXXXVIII, 1908, Swanson, no. 419, location unknown), with original exhibition labels on the reverse, and is sold together with a later reproduction frame that once housed the artist’s The Frigidarium (op. CCCII, 1890, Swanson no. 399, private collection).
