Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 35-40 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, which is a relatively low number in proportion to the vast number of glass tiles which were required to execute this complex and monumental shade. The shade with some light surface soiling along the recessed contours of the leading, primarily to the top register of the shade. The reticulated top bronze armature and shade leading display a deep and rich russet brown patina, and the branching in the top armature is incredibly sculptural and tactile, imparting the shade with great visual interest. The large “Tree” base displays an exceptionally rich and vibrant green patina with russet brown highlights. The bronze surfaces with some occasional light surface scratches, abrasions, and rubbing to the patina, as well as a few minor traces of light surface oxidation and a few small spots of patina loss, consistent with age and gentle use. With some light surface soiling to the recessed contours of the base design. The base retains its original decorative switch. There is rubbing to the patina along the perimeter contours of the switch, as well as to a small adjacent area on the base standard, from continued use and surface contact over the years. The base switch was originally intended to function as a three-way switch, but at present functions as a one-way switch (if desired this could easily be fixed by an electrician). All of the six sockets and paddle switches appear to be original and undisturbed. The lamp displays beautifully in person and has great sculptural presence, displaying a very pleasing glass selection with a beautiful range of red, pink and white apple blossoms.
