Description

  • onyx, garnet, gold
The brooch of bow design, the centre set with an onyx cameo depicting a woman and child, and foil backed garnets, later brooch fitting; the earrings each set with onyx cameos depicting male and female profiles, and foil backed garnets, post fittings, accompanied by fitted case.

Condition

Cameos carved in onyx, cameo on brooch with some small chips, on earrings female cameos identical, male cameos different, one in classical dress. Garnets light to medium reddish purple, typical inclusions visible under magnification. Later earring fittings to reverse of both earrings. Brooch with evidence of repair to underside, one gold bead replaced with metal bead and later brooch pin to reverse. Abrasions and tarnish to mount consistent with age and wear. In good condition. Fitted case in dark brown leather, hinge a little loose, evidence of wear.
