Condition

There are areas of successful restoration to the enamel overall. The scent bottle presumably had a stopper now lacking. An interesting and attractive object.

Catalogue Note

19th century passion for gadgetry was reflected in the popularity of mechanical cane and parasol handles, especially in France, where 'cannes à système' were made to conceal spy glasses, flasks, compasses, daggers, and virtually anything that could possibly be fitted.  The present lot, with a useful lady's étui, is a rare Russian example.
