Description

  • FLOWER ARRANGEMENT
  • Dye-transfer print
dye-transfer print, flush-mounted, the photographer's estate stamp, signed and dated by Michael Ward Stout, Executor, and with title, date, edition '1/5,' and 'DT 1857' in ink on the reverse, framed, 1988, printed in 1989 (Complete Flowers, chronological index)

Provenance

Christie's New York, Robert Mapplethorpe Flowers, 10 October 2005, Sale 1669, Lot 237

Condition

This dye-transfer print is in generally excellent condition. The colors remain rich and saturated, with no apparent fading. Upon close examination, various tiny deposits of original retouching are visible overall, as is a pin-point sized impression that does not break the emulsion in the upper right quadrant. The right edge of the print extends beyond the mount ever-so-slightly. There is a fingerprint visible in the lower margin, which is likely a result of handling during processing. The lower margin edge is lightly rubbed. On the reverse of the mount, graphite-colored fingerprints are visible at the periphery.
